A visit to Hunaudaye Castle always offers surprises to those who open their eyes wide. Observation of the various parts of the castle allows one to see easily the architectural changes between the 13th and the 15th centuries and to imagine the daily life. It is also a real pleasure to go exploring all the dark hidden recesses of the castle.

Fashion started at the end of the Middle Ages amongst the upper nobility, at a time when clothing was starting to become not only functional, but also a way of expressing the desires and tastes of the moment. Fashion developed at the royal court and spread anc changed with the whims of kings, their entourage and the most important lords of the land.
By presenting the different fashion styles which marked the end of the Middle Ages, the exhibition puts decorative clothing in its political, social and economic setting, since these influenced the development of successive fashions. Ahter the various scandals that fashion provoked over the years, modern man emerged, freed from the serious moral rules of a restrictive dress code.
Three costumes made specially for this exhibition as well as numerous reproductions of manuscript illuminations are used to illustrate this point. Certain archeological finds will be on show, such as sewing thimbles, needles and belt buckles which have come from the excavations of the château du Guildo in Créhen.
Lastly, the clothing, the materials and various fabrics presented invite you not just to look, but also to touch. By allowing you to touch, the exhibition hopes to help you better understand fashion in late medieval times.
