Located in the Village of « Saint Esprit des Bois », near Plédéliac, The Ferme d’antan is a former farm, abandoned then transformed into a working museum: in 1974, an association was formed to buy the farm and restore it, and turn it into a Breton conservative site.
The aim was to show both visitors and future generations how our ancestors used to live. We extend a warm welcome to visitors keen to discover bygone traditions and to school groups undertaking educational visits.
Visitors are taken back to the atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century. Nothing is missing: the decor, the fire burning in the hearth and the cock crowing... Even the guide, as she tells you how people used to live, is dressed just as our grand-mothers used to be.
During the visit you will experience family life from the past, with its daily routine of household chores, caring for the animals and working the land with the skills of the time.
You will discover the restored farmhouse, the cow byre, the stables, the pigsty and the henhouse. Displayed in the storeroom, the forge and the barn, are all the items, materials and tools essential to that way of life.
A detour to the garden will let you see some of the old crops: flax, Jerusalem artichokes, and buckwheat (blé noir - the essential ingredient of the Breton galette).
Your tour will end with a short film showing farm life through the eyes of a family on a day in September 1924.
