La cité
"Qui a Bretagne sans Jugon a chape sans chaperon." Brittany without Jugon is like a hooded cloak without its hood." This is a famous saying attributed to Bertrand Dugesclin in 1373 while rescuing Jugon castle from the hands of Jean De Montfort, who supported the English.. It reminds us of the important role played by Jugon in the history of the Penthievre area. Unfortunately in 1626 Richelieu ordered the destruction of the castle. Nevertheless Jugon has kept other relics of its past. The oldest parts of Notre Dame and Saint Etienne church are vestiges of the former 12th century Benedictine Priory.

Architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries is still evident in the granite houses round Place du Martray (the site of the old covered market) and in the side streets too. Various deeds confirm the dates of these dwellings. For instance the Hotel Savoy is without a doubt the most beautiful example of 17th century civilian architecture.

Jugon les Lacs "Petite Cite de Caractère "will seduce you with its genuine charm.
